The resin presents a significant risk to the health, safety and well-being of the personnel using the resin and those in proximity of the resin. The resin is harmful by inhalation, irritating to eyes, respiratory system and skin and may cause sensitisation by inhalation. Personnel working with the resin or close to the resin and not using the correct PPE could develop lung and soft mucosal tissue injury.

According to the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), many resins are “suspected of causing cancer”.

Some resin type hang-offs require in excess of 30 litres of resin to fill the space within the temporary and permanent clamps.

If the potential effects from the resin are known, why are projects continuing to install hang-offs which can have a negative effect on the health and well-being of the offshore personnel? How long will it be before installation personnel start to suffer the longer-term effects of using harmful resins? And at what cost to companies and the industry.

Is there an alternative to using the resin?

The Subsea Cable Hang-offs supplied by Kintech Energy Limited are free from resin and eliminate ALL risks and challenges related to storage, transport, mixing, application and removal of the resin.

The Kintech Resin Free Hang-off (RFHO) protects the health and well-being of the cable installation teams, reduces installation time and provides a clean and efficient cable installation.
